Drainbee

For pump sumps and lifting stations

You'll know the pump has stopped before the water rises.

Drainbee measures the water level in your sump around the clock. If it rises too high, the power fails or the Wi-Fi drops, Drainbee lets you know on your phone.

Installation

You don't need an electrician.

Screw on the wall mount, lower the probe into the sump, plug in the power supply. Then connect Drainbee to your Wi-Fi in the app.

  1. Mount the box

The wall mount goes next to the sump and the box clicks onto it. The power supply fits any standard socket.

  2. Lower the probe

The probe rests at the bottom of the sump and works out the water level from the water pressure: up to 1 metre, accurate to within a centimetre.

  3. Get the alarm

When the level rises above your threshold, your phone rings like an incoming call. Power outages and Wi-Fi loss are reported automatically.

App

Your sump,
on your phone.

As soon as the water moves, Drainbee measures every 10 seconds. The app shows the current level, when the pump last ran and how the water level has changed over the last 7 days.

  • App overview with status OK, water level, alarm value, Wi-Fi signal, pump cycles and level history

    Overview

Level, status and pump cycles in the last hour

  • Analysis screen with pump cycles in the last 24 hours plus rain and inflow over the last 30 days

    Analysis

How often the pump ran and how much water came in

  • Alarm list with three acknowledged threshold breaches

    Alarms

Every alarm with date, time and acknowledgement

  • 10 s – 5 min

Measuring interval. Every 10 seconds while the level moves, every 5 minutes when the water is still.

  • 7 days

Level history in the app. Enough to see whether the pump starts more often than usual.

  • ± 1 cm

Accuracy of the submersible probe at water levels up to 1 metre.

Alarm

Drainbee speaks up before it gets expensive.

When the level rises above your threshold, you get a message straight away. Drainbee also lets you know if the device loses power or the Wi-Fi drops. A power cut usually stops the pump, too.

  • Level above the threshold
  • Power outage at the device
  • Wi-Fi connection interrupted
Critical alerts on iPhone
iOS only

An alarm. Even when your iPhone is silent.

If the water rises above your alarm threshold, Drainbee can send a critical alert to your iPhone – even in silent mode or with Do Not Disturb enabled.

Required: You must allow critical alerts for Drainbee. The app asks when you first open it. You can change this later in iPhone Settings under Drainbee → Notifications → Critical Alerts.

Applies to water-level alarms. Power or Wi-Fi outage notifications are not critical alerts.

Drainbee critical alert on an iPhone lock screen: the alarm threshold has been exceeded. Current water level: 32 cm.

iOS widgets

Your level. Right on your Home Screen.

A glance at your iPhone is enough – no need to open the app. The Drainbee widgets show the key readings from your pump sump and update automatically.

Water level
Current water level in cm with the time of the last reading.
Inflow
How many centimeters the water rose over the last hour.
Pump cycles
How often the pump switched on in the last hour.

Local API

Your water level. In your smart home.

Read water levels and device status directly on your home network. Use the local HTTP interface to connect Drainbee to your own scripts, Home Assistant, ioBroker or Node-RED.

  • Directly from the device – without going through the cloud
  • Water level, connection status and diagnostics as JSON
  • No API key, no login – just an HTTP request

Use cases

What Drainbee is built for.

Built for

  • Basements with a pump sump or drainage
  • Lifting stations whose failure nobody else would notice
  • Holiday homes and rentals you don't visit every day
  • Houses that have had water in the basement before

Not meant for

  • Leaks under the sink or washing machine
  • Automatically shutting off the water supply
  • Outdoor installation or pressurised tanks
  • Water leak sensors on the floor
Comparison

Leak sensors report water. Drainbee reports the pump.

A water leak sensor goes off when the floor is already wet. A float switch can rust solid. Drainbee measures the level in the sump and notices when the pump stops starting.

Feature Drainbee Water leak sensor* Float switch
Continuous water level monitoring
Alert on water at floor level
Submersible probe for pump sumps
Alert at an adjustable water level fixed height, on site only (with alarm unit)
Phone alert on power outage
Audible alarm on the device depends on model with an alarm unit
Works without a hub partly
Pump cycle history
App with level history
Water shut-off via valve partly, with accessories
As of 7 Oct 2026, checked against manufacturers' product pages and data sheets (sources in each comparison article). Details may vary by model. * Water leak sensors such as Grohe Sense, Shelly Flood, Fibaro, Aqara or Homematic IP. Grohe Sense and Sense Guard are no longer available from Grohe Germany.

From Aachen, Erkelenz and Düren.

Why three homeowners now have Drainbee in their basement.

  • “The float had rusted and never triggered the alarm.”

Over the past 20 years the pump in my drainage shaft has failed twice due to technical defects. Despite a float-controlled alarm, I had water damage in the basement both times because the float had rusted and couldn't trigger the alert. With Drainbee I always have the inflow and pump behaviour of my drainage in view.

    Petra D. from Aachen
  • “The renovation dragged on for about 3 years.”

In 2019 water got into the basement of my apartment building. The cause was a jammed float on one of the two pumps. I had hoped the dual-pump system would keep me well protected – a misconception. To catch any future flooding in time, I have now installed two Drainbees in the basement.

    Michael L. from Erkelenz
  • “Especially on holiday, I always had a bad feeling.”

My basement has a pump sump that the drainage and a sink are connected to. I used to go down regularly to check whether the pump was still working properly. For automated monitoring I chose Drainbee. Since then I feel much more at ease.

FAQ

Questions and answers.

Can't find your question? Email [email protected] and you'll get an answer within 24 hours.

What can Drainbee measure?
The water level in unpressurised containers such as pump sumps, drainage shafts and lifting stations. The probe isn't designed for other liquids.
What does Drainbee need where it's installed?
A standard socket and Wi-Fi on the 2.4 GHz band. The included power supply provides the box with 5 volts.
Do I need a professional to install it?
No. You screw on the wall mount, lower the probe into the sump and connect Drainbee to your Wi-Fi in the app.
How often does Drainbee measure?
That depends on the water. While the level moves, Drainbee measures every 10 seconds and sends the readings straight away. When the water is still, one reading every 5 minutes is enough.
How accurate is Drainbee?
Accurate to within a centimetre, at water levels up to 1 metre.
Is Drainbee waterproof?
The probe is, the box isn't. It belongs on a dry wall next to the sump.
Can Drainbee connect to my smart home?
Drainbee doesn't need a smart home and works on its own. If you need it, a connection via HTTP is possible.
Isn't a simple water leak sensor enough?
A water leak sensor goes off when water is already on the floor. Drainbee sees the level rising in the sump and alerts you before it overflows.
Why isn't a float switch alarm enough?
Floats jam or rust solid, often after years of not being needed, and they don't report power cuts. Drainbee's probe has no moving parts, and Drainbee alerts you when the power goes out, too.
Do I need Drainbee if I have a backflow valve?
Yes. A backflow valve keeps sewer water out. It doesn't stop groundwater or drainage water that flows out through the pump sump. If the pump fails, the water still rises.
